How It Works
Trigger: A sensor (like motion detection, a door contact, or a smoke detector) notices a problem.
Signal: The system sends an immediate alert through the internet, a cellular network, or a phone line to the monitoring center.
Verification: Trained staff at the center receive the signal and call you or your emergency contacts to check if it is a real emergency or a false alarm.
Dispatch: If you do not answer, or if you confirm an emergency, the operators contact the proper authorities as requested by you.
Keyholder Duties
Opening and closing: Unlocking the premises at the start of the day and securely locking up at closing.
Alarm management: Disarming security systems upon arrival and arming them when leaving.
Emergency response: Acting as the first point of contact for police, security firms, or alarm monitoring centers during after-hours incidents.
Cash handling: Counting cash drawers, managing registers, preparing bank deposits, and approving large refunds.
Shift supervision: Overseeing staff, delegating daily tasks, and acting as the manager-on-duty in the manager's absence.
Facility checks: Inspecting the property for damage, maintenance issues, or safety hazards.
One-Way Dispatch: The monitoring center contacts the police when an alarm is verified. The police then respond to the location.
No Routine Status Updates: Officers on the road focus on securing the scene and typically do not provide a running commentary or follow-up phone call to the monitoring operator unless a critical issue arises (such as an open door, signs of a break-in, or needing the owner's details).
Feedback Loop: Instead of the police calling back, the monitoring company or the property owner usually has to wait for officers to complete their on-site inspection and report back through official channels or wait for a patrol guard to update the control room.
